I’m not sure if I’ve shared with you my New Year’s Resolution for 2015. This year I decided to give 2015 a big, fat K.I.S.S.! What does that stand for? Keep It Simple, Stupid. Am I stupid? No, but it reminds me to slow down, find my purpose, and not to get ahead of myself. In other words, get smart! What does that look like for me and my fitness goals? I would say the crux of it is my commitment to one training program.
This may be extremely easy for you. Like I have said before, I really admire the people who have come to MOVE for the past 3 years consistently on the same day and time. They get their workout in and move on to their family, jobs and responsibilities. They don’t need to think about doing more, because MOVE by itself works! Jarrod and I came up with the MOVE method because we think it is the best, most innovative, injury-free, results driven programming we can think of. We are constantly learning new ways to achieve better results, stay safe and be healthy.
In my quest to learn everything possible about fitness, I tried a million different ways to workout! I love yoga, spin, olympic lifting, power lifting, cardio classes, CrossFit, running on a treadmill, running outside, swimming….you name it. The moment a new fad or class comes out, I’m the first in line to give it a try and develop a new epiphany for how great it is! However, my randomized training that shot from one workout to the next didn’t give me the results or piece of mind I was looking for. Instead of being well rounded in my fitness pursuits, I was non committal. I’d fill my week with workouts and then jump into MOVE classes when I had time. I was either overtraining or under-training because I didn’t have a system in place. I blamed it on me being “bored easily” and needing to be “challenged more” as a fitness professional, instead of focusing all of my energy on one program. I was getting injured, gaining weight, and quite frankly, super stressed out!
Insert amazing husband, who told me, “Katy, why don’t you just try taking MOVE classes and see how you feel?” He knew that everything I wanted I could get out of being consistent at MOVE. I know this seems like a DUH moment, but y’all, I was making it WAY TOO COMPLICATED!
So starting Jan. 1st, I committed to MOVE 3 times a week, MWF at 5:15am. I am proud to say, it has been almost 3 months and I have not missed a single MWF class (except during my vacation in Patagonia.) Do I always need to get up at 4:30am to get my workout in? No, but that consistency of training has been crucial to getting my workout in and done. I now have way more time to focus on my business, my family, and my responsibilities (who knew?!). But is it working? Heck ya! I have seen strength gains, dropped three pants sizes (no joke), and the best part…I don’t feel anxious! Plus, I LOVE my family of MOVERS. The 5:15am class pushes me, encourages me and makes me laugh. I can’t imagine a better group of people to start my day with.
Do I still drop in to the occasional yoga class and run town lake? Of course! But, I don’t fill my schedule with workouts anymore. I know MOVE works for me, and it gives me such a piece of mind knowing that I am working towards the best version of myself, as long as I keep it simple and stay consistent.
To finish this year as strong as I started, I will remember that, “The only permission, the only validation, and the only opinion that matters in our quest for greatness is our own.” Here’s to keeping it simple and being GREAT in 2015!
