MOVEr Spotlight: Kate Wilde

Congratulations Kate Wilde!

-MOVEr since July 2012-

Tell us about yourself!

I was born and raised in Wisconsin (“Go Pack Go!”)! I travel back twice a year to see my mom, sister, and extended family; we all live within a 20 mile radius of one another. Wisconsin families are tight! We’ve had lots of good times playing cards, skiing, fishing, playing in the snow, and seeing everyone’s kids!

I work as a full-time speech pathologist doing home health therapy with children. I help kids with a plethora of problems from n10426849_10155152036460257_4586691206774312608_not being able to say certain sounds correctly, stuttering, voice issues, feeding problems, language disorders, developmental delays. My favorite and most rewarding/challenging job helping kids with severe muscular disorders communicate via iPads or devices. Seeing the challenges these kids face makes me thankful for a healthy body and brain that can move and talk every day! Outside of speech pathology world, I am a Rodan and Fields Dermatology consultant and enjoy promoting products that I LOVE.

Beyond working and coming to MOVE, I am a busy lady. I enjoy too many things and have a hard time saying no!  My latest endeavors are to pass my NASM personal training certification and then travel to Italy this summer. Other hobbies of mine include playing co-ed soccer, running marathons, skiing/wake boarding, staying active with my dog on Town Lake, hiking the greenbelt, playing guitar, singing, dancing, cooking, trying new restaurants, refurbishing old furniture (or attempting too…..), going to fun events like fashion and art shows, & watching Game of Thrones!

What inspired you to become a MOVEr?

When I first moved to Austin almost 6 years ago, I did kickboxing for a year and then decided to change it up and run a marathon. I trained by myself for so long that after the race, I was looking for a gym that would not only motivate me to stay in shape but that would also provide a sense of community. It’s nice to be able to come to a class and talk to people while working through the grind. It’s like being a part of a team again!

What are your fitness &/or wellness goals?

Health and wellness have always been a strong passion of mine, and I enjoy continuously learning and bettering myself and others so we can be healthy and beat disease. Working in healthcare, I am very PREVENTION-minded as I have seen the outcomes of when the body fails to function properly. So I try to do all I can to stay strong and healthy in order to live the fullest life I can live.  Currently, my goal is to increase strength and also get back on the track.

How has MOVE helped you reach these goals?

I have learned a LOT from the programs that MOVE has offered in regards to fitness and nutrition, and it has made a huge difference with increasing my energy level so that I can do all that I love to do. The programming at MOVE is very well done and is what I need to be able to keep playing soccer at a competitive level, as well as participate in other sports while avoiding injury.

How do you stay motivated to be consistent with your MOVE workouts?

I’m pretty internally motivated to be active, and I love the results that I have obtained from lifting weights. The programming at MOVE keeps me motivated to keep at it!!! I don’t want to lose what I’ve worked hard to change. Plus, going to MOVE regularly helps me keep my sanity! It’s a great stress reliever.

What advice do you have for others to stay active and healthy, or who are not currently active?

To stay active and healthy, I’d say do something to move your body every day and try a new healthy recipe each week. Variety is what keeps you going. Everyone has a starting point, and everyone can improve from their current level. Set a goal and work at it with a positive mindset, one day at a time. It helps to surround yourself with like-minded people, so if your goal is to be active and healthy, you’ve got to be around others who share the same outlook and can encourage you along the way.

What are you looking forward to next?

I am looking forward to seeing what my future holds once I am a certified personal trainer. I can’t wait to use some of the new equipment at the gym and try new MOVEments!
